Very open race, the Fav #5 Vauban on form is a steeple jumper longer distance running horse that has then been set for this race, questionable class and form generally for this style of Group 1 two mile race but a master trainer (one of the best in the world) – on form should be $14 chance but has been heavily backed. It either wins or runs nowhere, happy to risk.

#1 Gold Trip ($8.00) won this race last year, is going even better this year, the extra weight is offset by its great draw (soft run) peaking form and the best jockey by lengths in the race.

#3 Without A Fight ($7.50) high quality stayer, won the Caulfield Cup last start but has now drawn very poorly and wide (16), if it had drawn low to get a soft run it likely just wins, very tricky ride now

French Mare #15 Lastotchka ($21.00) owned by the same group who won the race last year with Gold Trip, very sharp at identifying the right stayer and then the lead up prep.

#8 Rights You Are ($34.00) #18 Serpentine ($34.00) and #20 More Fellons ($26.00) look the best of the knock out chances.

As we know it’s the race that stops the nation which means they also are all having a bet and so the betting pools are exceptionally inflated and can throw up some very large dividends, so playing a little wide and if we get some luck then any sort of huge divi can be possible.

Because there are so many combinations getting this right is like getting the Powerball numbers correct, and so if we have any long shots running in any of these first 4 spots then the divi return will be huge. But its hard.
